A scene from the Artist with the leading lady.
No doubt you've seen the fan-fare around 1920's style, fashion and film lately. Between The Great Gatsby coming out soon and The Artist taking center stage at the Oscars this year, the roaring 20's are indeed quite loud. There's 10 days until the famous awards take place; we think this is a fantastic theme for your Oscar party!
Theme Ideas:

Black and White

Have everyone dress on black & white- no exceptions. Decorate your venue with only black and white and hand out black and white favors. black & white signature cocktails will be a hit, too.

Speakeasy/ Gangsta

Remember, Speakeasys were secret locations because they were illegal during prohibition. Send out secret invites and only let in those who know the password.

The Jazz Age

Ask everyone to dress up as their favorite jazz artist and play the fantastic tunes all night long.

Flappers

Hire professional dancers to teach the Charleston and other dance trends of the time.
Food
Here's a excerpt from "Fashionable Food" on the 1920's food revolution and what it had to do with Italian cuisine...

"Prohibition, with its tremendous impact on the eating habits of the country, also had a great deal to do with the introduction of Italian food to the masses...prohibition changed all that. The food served in the speakeasies--with Mama doing the cooking and Papa making the wine in the basement--was not quite the same as the food the Italians had eaten in the Old Country. Sicilian cooking was based on austerity...But America was rich, and protein rich country, and the immigrants were happy to add these symbols of wealth to their cooking--and happy that their new American customers liked the result. Meatballs, rich meat sauces, veal cutlets cooked with Parmesean or with lemon, clams stuffed with buttered herbed crumbs, shrimp with wine and garlic, and mozzarella in huge chunks to be eaten as appetizer were all foods of abundance, developed by Italian-Americans..."
