Hudson's Hot New Line + Event Coverage

Posted by DJS Events

Hudson Jeans Lou Lou pant
We are IN LOVE with HUDSON's new line "Phosphorescence Invasion"--and more in love with how they did their launch party.
The product, a new tuxedo style pant called the "Lou Lou" has glow in the dark stripes on the outer leg. In daylight, it looks like this:

The launch party took place in the Scoop meatpacking district store, and included a street art installation by artist Aakash Nihalani, whose flourescent tape added sparkle to the event.
There were also video projections on trucks near Milk Studio & outside Scoop.

The product is a clash of a tuxedo style jean and the neon strip is dazzling-- "drawing upon phosphorescent street art and graphic elements, architecture and even athletic uniforms"

New Years Photos+Fun Part 1!

Our Champagne & Chandeliers New Year's Celebration at Indigo was a blast! We thought you would want to see the photos from the awesome night we had.

The Main Floor was where people took the house down! Doors opened at 9 p.m. and it was pumping until 2 in the morning. We had a great, high energy crowd that shook it like a Polaroid picture it all night long. The party attracted mostly professionals in their 30's, but there were a handful of mature twenty-somethings as well as super-fly folks in their 40's and 50's.

We were able to calculate how many people would be the perfect amount for a thriving, bubbling party- the perfect combination of cool people and a beautiful space. Even though the hotel was completely booked out for the weekend, the dance floor was filled just right for people to ring in the New Year.

We had VIP lounges around the perimeter of the room. Each lounge got a bottle of champagne, vodka, and personalized service from a special server. Around them were sparkling tables to sit and have a drink, and in the middle was a fabulous dance floor which was filled from beginning to end.

Dawn was able to bring Piper as Indigo is dog-friendly!

People that didn't want to part with their kids for the weekend were in luck- there was a special play room for the kids where they were supervised in a safe place while their parents enjoyed the night. About 5 minutes before New Year, they were brought out, rang it in with their parents, and then were brought back in for the night. How cool is that? Many families got to enjoy the night with their friends- drink, dance and have a good time- while their children were right in the next room. The next morning, lots of people had breakfast and then went shopping at the nearby outlet mall, went vineyard hopping, or just had a lazy weekend.

Stay tuned for our next blog where we'll give you some more scoop on the details of the spectacular evening!

How to Have a Fantastic New Years Eve!

Posted by DJS Events

Dawn Strain, President of DJS Events was on Valerie Smaldone's "Valerie's New York" Radio Show AGAIN this past week, talking about how to have a successful and fantastic New Years!  Click to listen here!

Top 3 Tips For Having a Fabulous New Years:

1.) Keep it Simple: Like we said about Christmas parties, keeping it simple will make your life easier and give you more time to enjoy the party. In fact, we suggest going out for New Year's rather than having your own party. Why? Many businesses have incredible deals for New Years, with all inclusive drinks, food and overnight stays.
2.) Make it Themed: But what if you really, truly, WANT to have a party? Having a theme keeps a focal point for organizing decor, invites, food and attire.
3.) Have It Out: Unless you have an enormous house or apartment where everyone will crash after the party, it's best to plan your party at a local restaurant or bar inside of a hotel. DJS Events is doing a gorgeous, fun, accessible weekend away party at the Indigo Hotel. Check it out here!

Dawn Gives Party Tips on WOR News Talk Radio

Dawn Strain, the president of DJS Events was on Valerie Smaldone's "Valerie's New York" Radio Show this past week, talking about how to have a successful and fantastic holiday party! Click to listen here!
Would you rather read than listen? Here are some of the gems from the interview:

TOP FIVE TIPS for a successful holiday party:
1. Create a wonderful and comfortable atmosphere for your guests by introducing them to one another and giving them leeway for conversation. Example: "Jon, this is Linda. Linda works in publishing. Linda, Jon writes articles on golf in his free time."
2. Don't worry about physical invites too much- as long as your digital invites are clear and straightforward you're good to go. It's always nice to have pretty "real" invites that match the theme of your party, but if that's not an option, don't sweat it.
3. Keep it simple with space: try to move furniture around or put extra stuff in storage or your garage. If that's not an option, a good tip is that you don't need to put all the food out at once. First put the colds out, then the hots.
4. Best Nibbles: Cheese and Guacamole look funky after just a little while. Try humus and pitas or Dawn's favorite recipe: Asparagus wrapped in crescent rolls sprinkled with parmasean cheese. Also, getting a food warmer (at any Walmart or Target) will greatly help keep things fresh.
5. You don't need to stock the bar with every possible drink out there- you can have a few different types of wine and two signature drinks- they can even both be Vodka based; Dawn suggests one a little sweeter and one a little sassier and stronger. People are just going to be happy to have a drink, period!

Dawn Strain says she has always been the one to design, decorate, and help plan events. While working in the corporate world -- which she says was not a great fit -- a contact said she was very talented at events and suggested "why don't you make it your business?" That led to the 2006 launch of DJS Events.
Strain had noticed a lack of networking groups and events on Long Island geared toward younger professionals. About 10 years ago she founded Long Island Elite, a nonprofit organization for the 40-and-under crowd. Besides networking, the 75 or so members also raise funds for area charities.
On Thursday at the Hauppauge Industrial Association's workforce conference, Strain, 37, will be speaking about young professionals and how employers can cultivate their leadership abilities.
Apart from the economy, what's your biggest headache?
"Finding staff who really get and understand that this is not a nine-to-five job; sometimes it's weekends, sometimes it's very late nights. Also people right out of college putting on their applications that they want to start at $40,000 a year."
What was your biggest break?
"Planning a weekend conference in New York City for 300 to 400 people for Bethpage Federal Credit Union." That was just after starting her business, so it was, "jumping in running, for sure."
Which events are the most demanding?
"Private events such as bar mitzvahs and weddings are always challenging when you're navigating through different family emotions. And charity events in this economy are challenging in getting levels of attendance and raising funds."
 Who's influenced you?
"People have told me that I remind them of Bethenny Frankel, [natural food chef, featured on Bravo's "Bethenny Ever After"]. So I recently started watching her show, and I feel that she is a no-nonsense person with a tremendous heart. Her willingness to take risks and speak her mind is very inspiring. I aspire to someday build an empire like she has recently started to create."
With all these activities, how do you replenish yourself?
"When I get a little overwhelmed, I'll realize I need to take five days off and go away somewhere. Or, just taking a day off during the week and shutting off my BlackBerry, but that's so hard for me. . . . I also enjoy spending time with my girlfriends, even going out one night and laughing."
What's your most fun workplace perk?
"I have three dogs and sometimes they come to work with me. I bring Piper, my Chihuahua, everywhere I go.
If there were a fire alarm, what in your office would you grab first?
"The dog. I wouldn't even think twice about it."

Dinner at The White House

Who says they don't know how to party in DC? The White House Correspondant White House Correspondents’ Association dinner—also dubbed  Washington’s “nerd prom”  is a once a year occasion when Washington politicians, Hollywood stars, and New York media bigwigs all flock to the city for a 3,000-guest dinner at the Hilton. Surrounding this bombastic extravagance, every year, the media outlets gets fierce, with Vanity Fair, Bloomberg, People, Time, and MSNBC hosting events competing for guests and press mentions.

Kate Moss's Romantic Wedding

Posted by DJS Events

Kate Moss chose a sophisticated yet free spirited style for her English country wedding. Here are some elements we truly appreciated...

The no-frou-frou flower girl enterauge. Dressed in Bonpoint dresses without the hint of being too precious, the  youngest members of the wedding party look absolutely stunning yet wild with daisy chains and angelic flair.

The flower-laden procession filled with fresh bridesmaids and flower girls with a stony 12th century church as backdrop.

Bushels of clean, white roses.

Tee-pee for the children to play in.

The 6 tiered rose adorned cake

Edwardian Wicker in the garden.

Cut crystal and garden roses at the dinner table.

Vintage Rolls Royces for the bridal party.
